This service provides conversion of your consumer video tapes to Web ready H.264 MP4 files. Consumer video tapes are VHS, VHS-C, Betamax, 8mm, Hi8, Digital 8, MiniDV, HDV, and MicroMV cartridge formats.

Today, cloud storage and social media networks are the more common ways for people to view and share their favorite home videos. Our H.264 MP4 files are made for this type of use. You can store these data files (from your video tapes) in your preferred Cloud service; and then watch them by streaming them down to your mobile devices, or cast them to your HDTV; or send share links to friends and family. The files can also be uploaded for posting and sharing via social network outlets.

We use the appropriate video tape players, along with time based correction and sync hardware for matching audio and video output, to produce new digital files that are then captured into specialized software for editng and reformatting the digitized content into H.264 MP4 files.

Video Tapes digitized and reformatted to new digital file outputs, priced by content hour. This option is ideal for tape libraries with many tapes, but with only minutes of content on each tape. We offer conversion to a selection of new digital formats such as DVD, Blu-ray Disc, or data file formats. If optical disc (DVD or Blu-ray) is chosen, we will combine the content onto as few discs needed as possible. If data file formats are chosen, several options exist for return of the new digital files - via data disc, flash-drive, external hard-drive, or web download.

Pricing is $40.00 per video content hour. Estimate the number of hours and enter this number in the QUANTITY box above. We do not charge your credit card until your order is complete and ready for return shipment. If your estimate is high we will reduce the dollar value of your order. If your estimate is low, we will first contact you with information on how many content hours are in your video tapes, provide a new dollar estimate, and wait for your instructions to proceed.

Process: Conversion of your video tapes to both Disc (DVD or Blu-ray) and Data File.

Supported Tapes: VHS, VHS-C, BetaMax, MiniDV, HDV, MicroMV, 8mm, Hi8, and Digital 8 tapes. We can transfer PAL and SECAM tapes for VHS tapes, 8mm tapes, MiniDV and HDV tapes, too.

Transfer Process: Before play, we perform video tape inspection, repair, and cleaning. Capture of content is done via professional tape decks with composite, S-video, and IEEE 1394 connections, linked to video ingestion software systems, to provide high quality capture and intermediate file types before final formatting to your requested disc and/or data file format.

Other Info: Blu-ray Disc is becoming more popular, while DVD has been the standard. Blu-ray Disc can hold up to 9 hours of video tape content, with DVDs holding just 2 hours. The most commonly requested file formats are H.264 mp4 for easy access and storage and sharing; and H.264 MOV or AVI file types for video editing. Depending upon the source video tapes, resolution of the video content is standard definition 720x480p from VHS and most camcorder tapes, and 1280x720p or 1920x1080p resolution for content transferred from HDV tapes.

Turnaround: Average turnaround is 2 to 3 weeks from receipt of your order into our lab back to your doorstep.

Return Formats: Your choice of DVD or Blu-ray Disc, and the backup data files can be formatted as MP4, MOV, AVI, WMV or other files types. All drives are formatted in exFAT, for compatibility with Windows or Apple OS systems.

This service product provides conversion of video tapes to Blu-ray Disc. Up to 9 hours of standard video from video tapes can be placed onto one video Blu-ray Disc. This is a great way to both modernize your collection of home movies, and reduce their physical footprint. The new Blu-ray Disc can be played in modern Blu-ray players (2009 or newer), Game Consoles, and new computers with Blu-ray Disc drives.

We provide digitization of video tape content and reformatting to Blu-ray Disc for the following list of tapes: VHS, VHS-C, BetaMax, MiniDV, HDV, MicroMV, 8mm, Hi8, and Digital 8 camcorder tapes. We can transfer PAL and SECAM tapes, too.

Blu-ray Discs represent the best optical disc media currently available. They hold more video content (up to 9 hours), offer higher transmission speeds for playback of high definition video on HDTV, and are more durable (advertised shelf life of 70+ years). Average turnaround for your order is 2 weeks from receipt of your order into our lab back to your doorstep.

Transfer price is $25 / tape. Quantity discounts available, starting at 10 tapes. PAL tapes carry a $10 per tape upcharge. Extra copies of the final Blu-ray Disc are $15 each.

Each video tape is played in the appropriate tape-deck, its contents digitally captured by specialized software, and then reformatted into a new Blu-ray Disc.

A Blu-ray Disc can contain up to 9 hours of standard definition video (MPEG-2), or up to 3 hours of high definition video (H2.64 MPEG-4). The disc is a BD-R manufactured by either Verbatim or Falcon, and has an advertised shelf life of over 70 years if stored properly.
The disc is set up for auto-play with chapter points for every 20 minutes of video content unless specified differently.
We combine multiple video tapes onto as few new discs as possible, with each video tape becoming its own chapter on the Blu-ray Disc.
One (1) onscreen title is at beginning of the Blu-ray Disc, an example being “Smith Family Home Movies”.

Transfer Process: We examine video tapes prior to play, repairing tapes as needed ($20), and will clean VHS tapes with our TapeChek 400 industrial machine to remove loose particles. Each video tape is played in the appropriate tape-deck, and its contents are digitally captured by specialized software, with the capture process enhanced by use of time based correction and sync hardware to correctly match video and audio output. We then use Adobe Creative Cloud PremeirePro and Encoder to edit the digital content and reformat it into your requested data file format.

Pricing: Price is $25 / tape. Quantity discounts available. PAL tapes carry a $10 per tape upcharge. Video tapes longer than 2 hours in length require an extra master DVD for each additonal 2 hours of content - priced at $16.50 for each extra DVD required to finish the transfer. As an example, a four hour VHS tape transferred to DVD will cost $41.50 ($25 plus $16.50) for the final 2 DVD set.

Each video tape is played in the appropriate tape-deck, its contents digitally captured by specialized software, and then reformatted into a standard definition video DVD-R. The DVD-R contains MPEG-2 video and audio files; is manufactured by either JVC Taiyo Yuden or Falcon, and has an advertised shelf life of over 30 years if stored properly. The DVD is set up for auto-play with chapter points for every 20 minutes of video content. One DVD can contain up to 2 hours of video. Unless requested otherwise, we automatically combine multiple video tapes onto as few new discs as possible. One (1) customized table of contents menu is at beginning of DVD, an example being “Bryant Family Home Movies”. The table of contents has a motion icon for each video tape, and clicking on the icon takes the viewer to the corresponding chapter marker within the video content on the DVD.
